F-15

The F-15 is a very fast fighter jet. A whole air wing is stationed in Massachusetts at Camp Otis.

Hello. My latest activities have not been entirely ham radio. I did have a nice radio experience on Friday, June 1st. WA1NYC and I went to the Massachusetts Military Reservation on Cape Cod. It was a beautiful day to visit the Cape. The air was fresh and clean. It is very different from Suffolk Co. We went to visit the Air Force’s 253rd Combat Communications Group. Colonel Mofford of the 253rd and his men put together a great tour of some of the facilities at the MMR. Colonel Mofford also gave a presentation about the 253rd on deployment; it was a big DXpedition.

This is an Armored Personnel Carrier. We had an opportunity to see some of the training facilities at the MMR. This was parked by the one of the small arms ranges.

We also had a chance to visit the Army National Guard aviation units at the installation. Here is one of the famous Blackhawk series. The soldier on the guard is waiting for the Specialist to escort myself and WA1NYC for our inspection of the installation.

This is were I parked Railfan 3. This is close to the periphery of the installation. We toured around the entire border and never left the confines of the restricted airspace.

Here is a picture of your author looking out the window of the Blackhawk. We had a great time at the tour of the facility. Click here to visit the entire album. We also had an opportunity to see the Massachusetts F-15 Air Wing. I met the Lieutenant that was on alert duty. They were ready for wheels up in less than five minutes. We even visited the Coast Guard’s station.
