I have always enjoyed the Bond films with such fondness. Recently, I was able to review an examination of British culture and the identifications made by the Bond films in the guise of non-fiction by Simond Winder entitled as The Man Who Saved Britain: A Personal Journey into the Disturbing World of James Bond. One has to remember that the United States was left intact physically after World War II with industry to grow. Britain jumped into a new world with an economy orientated for it after World War II. Winder’s book brings forth ideas of Bond as the ultimate satire akin to the A-Team in many respects.
Bond is the secret weapon of the remant British Empire. It brings news light into the books and movies. I recently watched Casino Royale. Instead of playing a more daring card game espoused in European traditon such as Skat or Baccart - which is a love professed by Bond and Flemming - Bond plays an Americanized poker. In the new world order Bond has become the ultimate weapon of Britain. Agents of the might power such as Felix Leiter are merely shadows that fetch items for the weapon.
Is Bond merely an action hero or a transcension of their former military glories by the British?
